Cinque Terre: New information at sea
The Cinque Terre National Park is looking to launch a new information campaign in the Summer of 2009 due to the growing interest in the sea and the increasing numbers of yachtsmen navigating our waters. The campaign aims to avoid accidents at sea and damage to the environment. For years the Park Authority and Marine Protected Area have been aware of the problems of the sea and have published rules and regulations for navigation and swimming in the local waters on their web site, as well as on other Park and National Marine Reserve sites. Recently photos and information have also been published on Facebook and videos on Youtube. In the last seven years the number of local Sciacchetra' producers has more than doubled from the original 10 to the current 23. The quantity of grapes left to dry this year is equal to that of 2006 but 10,000 kilos less than that of 2007 when there was the largest quantity in seven years. The inspections by the State Corps of Forest Rangers do not include private consumption producers, therefore it is suggested to only purchase Sciacchetra' with labelling that includes the writing D.O.C, the name and place of bottling to avoid any possible fraud. The data provided by the Corps of State Forest Rangers regarding the monitoring of the 2008 grape harvest detail the censoring of 12.000 units, the measuring of more than 4.600 parcels subdivided over 340 companies with 177 visits to cellars.
